The time factor made it worthwhile to me.Joined: Member: #6597 Messages: 4,433 Gender: Male First Name: Kelson Honolulu, Hawaii Vehicle: 08 5-Lug Reg. Note: This might or might be covered by my extended warranty and if it was I'd still do it in my own. Total time including wiping down acculated crud, using canned air, checking function, putting stuff away and admiring my work - 45 mins. I used plastic interior tools I already had for LED conversions. Those two clips just need to be pried out and are a bit stubborn but will come out.Ĥ. It made it a bit easier to get to the front two clips. I took those out and they just snap in place with two snaps per side. There little dash material pieces about 4 inches long on either side of the coin tray. There are a different type of fastener than the others.ģ. Two in the arm rest area, two in middle and two up front on either side of the little coin tray. There are 6 snaps that hold the cup holder assembly. Just slide the circuit board out, depress the catch on the connector and swap them.Ģ. The pig tails are about 10" long and snake under the console. Only the circuit board needs to be replaced. To add to or perhaps full in with more info to prior posts:ġ. I just finished this repair a few minutes ago. Put that clip somewhere safe! You can then just move the entire cover piece over to expose everything you need to access. Just pull that off and you can remove the shifter. Once that was out I removed the shifter handle but pulling the silver portion down (its just clipped/pressure fitted) to expose the clip that holds the shift handle. The back and middle pop off with ease but the 2 clips on the angled plastic was a pain to pull out. The only difficulty I had was removing the shifter/cup holder piece. I simply took the silver cover off, disconnected the wire to the M D circuit board and took it out and swapped it and did the reverse to connect it back to the original. It has 2 wire leads that you need to install in the harness which I did not do. The part is literally the whole shift indicator lighting assembly, meaning its the housing with the silver cover on top. I got the part (35170AL00A) for $71 from SubaruGenuineParts. It wasn't worth it for me to go to the dealer with warranty since I have the $100 deductible. I know the warranty excludes common "maintenance" items like light bulbs, but since this is a whole circuit board assembly I would imagine this would be covered, correct? If it was just a cheap bulb replacement I'd do it myself, but since that part runs about $80 online and requires some disassembly I'd obviously rather have the dealer do it if it's covered under the extended warranty. We're out of factory warranty but have the Subaru Gold Plus extended warranty with no deductible. Turns out it's not individual bulbs but is a whole circuit board with integrated LED lights that has to be replaced. I did track down a parts diagram for the shifter assembly and it didn't show any individual bulbs, so I dug some more and found a thread on the LegacyGT forums where a couple others had the same gear shift indicators go out on the 15+ Legacy. As suggested I gave it some good thumps and also tried to poke around through the slot where the shifter moves (not much clearance but was able to fit a bit of my pinky), but the light's still out even after thumping and poking at it for about 30 minutes while I was finally doing our audio/nav system updates.
